The day is being organised as a response to the huge number of enquiries we have received in our beginners beekeeping programme over recent months, and we would like to thank everyone for being patient while we sorted out the best way of giving everyone an opportunity to get involved.

The Taster Day will give an overview of the craft of beekeeping, including theory sessions at The Foley Arms in Claygate and a guided tour with practical demonstrations at our apiary at Hampton Court Way, East Molesey. A chance to get up close with the bees!

The cost of the day will be £50 per person, including tea/coffee and biscuits. And this will also include a sandwich lunch.

Veils or beekeeping jackets will be provided for the practical sessions, you just need to bring wellington boots & clean washing up gloves. Please wear long trousers and a fleece type jacket.

Places will be fairly limited so please could you confirm your interest as soon as possible - details will be available closer to the time. Please use the 'contact us' form available here on the website.

You will also be able to join Kingston Beekeepers on the day if you wish. Benefits of this include - free hive insurance (for 1-2 hives), subscription to Beecraft (the monthly journal of the British Beekeepers Association), use of the club’s honey extraction equipment and lots more.

We are also currently planning a series of evening beekeeping theory sessions in January/February 2011, these will be especially aimed at beginners and improvers. More details to follow.

We've just added a new Bee Hive manufacturer and supplier to our links page ('other sites' page). They are based in Farnborough, Hampshire and are specialists in "Hot wax impregnation" hives which acts as a timber preservative, lasting years and protecting against fungi, damp, preventing disease penetration and overall seals the joints. They are called Bees-Knees Hives.
